I’m happy with my workflow right now and am able to work responsively quickly & easily, leaving more time for other parts of the project. Some of the (nested) grid systems on this current project I would never have dreamed possible when I first started using RWD.
Alongside that I’ve also been preparing the sum of my knowledge into a three hour workshop on Responsive Design I gave at Leeds University last Wednesday. Teaching has always been something I aspired to do, and given that the workshop was for the New Media course I completed back in 2007 it was really satisfying.
Sadly the turnout was pretty dismal (students eh!) but I was happy that I got out there and did it. The workshop has definitely made me ponder more teaching / speaking opportunities in future. Education in web design is something that has always bugged me due to my experiences at University being way behind industry standard.
Covering a range of topics and examples, I was especially keen to push the ethos of Responsive Design, mobile-first and the reasons behind them both. I believe the technical stuff is better learned in your own time and is also very well written about, although we did go through some tasks during the last hour.
Please see the presentation slides I’ve uploaded and linked above, which I created using the great reveal.js. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
